Our Sunday at Ventolera 🌄

That day we had lunch plans, but we didn’t want to waste the morning. So we organized a quick trip — and ended up at Ventolera.

Located high in the mountains of Escazú, this hilltop can be seen from the Central Valley. It’s a wide open, tree-less area with incredible views all around.

To get there:

  • We drove along Route 27,
  • Turned off toward Escazú,
  • Grabbed brunch and snacks at the supermarket,
  • And started driving uphill.

After the paved road ends, the path becomes rocky and steep, so a 4x4 is necessary. You’ll drive through paddocks until reaching the topmost section where you can park.

🌬️ What We Did There

Once out of the car, we crossed a fence with all our picnic supplies and climbed the big grassy hill to the top. We flew kites, slid down on cardboard, ate snacks, and watched the cows 🐄 and horses 🐎 around us — with breathtaking views.

From there you can see the entire central volcanic range, including parts of Cartago, San José, Heredia, and Alajuela.

This place is amazing on its own, but bringing fun things, comfy clothes, and picnic food makes it even better ✨
