We ventured out to discover this hidden paradise between Playa Grande beach and Piratas, getting there is not easy but the challenge is worth the adventure.

Take the street that goes to Pirates Bay (Playa Real) and after this beach, follow the road to the left for about 10 more minutes. The road is not very well maintained and there are a couple of interesting climbs where it is good to have 4 × 4 traction. After passing a container on the right there is a small entrance 100 meters later where you can squeeze in with the car a bit and from here you look for the road that goes along a path to the beach.

Since I (Trejos) live near Tamarindo I know the area quite well and I had the chance to explore some hidden secrets of Guanacaste, many of them known by locals but they do not really have a name. By mistake, I’m calling this blog Playa Conejera (Rabbit Beach) which isn’t quite right because It doesn’t have a name but Punta Conejo is nearby but that’s how I’ll leave it ... (although I really think that it should be called Playa Thong from the way it looks from above).

So we went to see this beach that we had never been able to get to until today. The car was left parked on a road with no exit. We followed the path that descends and then goes up to where we have to pass a fence. After the fence, the path passes through the forest, then mud and then again forests ending in what seems to be a small estuary.

From here you have to walk along the path on the right until you suddenly hear the sea, you go through some trees and then the beach is visible. The color of the sand is white and in other parts black, the water is turquoise and has a rock formation in the center that divides the beach in two. Of the cool things (besides that it is almost virgin) it is that it has big trees that give shade in the sand, and if the sea is calm you can possibly do snorkeling in its reefs.

When we arrived we put a large blanket to place our things, we played, we ate, we took photos, we slept and we bathed in the sea until hunger struck and we collected everything.

It is one of the most beautiful beaches in Guanacaste, no doubt about it and I think that every person who dares to visit it has to carry a good bag to pick up trash from what the sea drags in and leave it better than how it was found.

So go and discover this beautiful hidden beach between Playa Grande and Bahia de Los Piratas, I promise you won’t regret it.
