We got on the road at 8:30 am and we headed towards our next adventure in Esparza. In a little more than an hour, we reached Piedra de Fuego. The property is on the right side of the street and there are a lot of mango trees that make a very nice shade for your car to be parked, but it is wise to check how many mangos above are on the verge of falling so you don’t take home a nice souvenir of the farm embedded in the windshield.

After parking and preparing our water bottles for the road, we were greeted by one of the owners to welcome us and explain the route, give us a couple of recommendations and off we went ... The trail starts with a small grass hill then starts to go down the forest under the shade. It is very well labeled and maintained. We continued downhill until we reached a beautiful ravine, under the shade of the trees. There we sat on the rocks and ate a couple of mangos we grabbed from the parking lot ...

The trail became totally flat passing by the river Barranca, at this point, the sound of the river and the breeze gave a fresh and relaxed vibe, which was enough motivation to start climbing the other half of the route. We started to climb and feel a bit of the slope that we had pending for the return. After climbing about 1 km, we made a mandatory stop off-track to a giant rock, this is completely covered by tree roots. There we put on 4 layers of repellent, the number of mosquitoes was exaggerating. Then we saw Karlita fall from 2 meters high for trying to climb, we ate a couple of snacks, we finished the beverages and then we continued.

The truth is that the climb was tough, and after that break, we gave ourselves in the rock, we were energized just enough to make it back to the parking lot. Thankfully towards the end of the trail, there were some incredible sights where we had to stop to get air, and of course, take pictures. When we arrived at the parking lot, Diego and his mother (administrator & owner) welcomed us with a small stash of fresh fruits and cold water. Just what we needed after the tremendous leg work. We showered and got ready to go back to San José satisfied and happy to have finalized another QueBuenLugar trip.
