🧭 Our experience

On a slightly cloudy Sunday, we headed to Grecia to visit a set of waterfalls famous for emerging from a rock wall that truly left us speechless.

This place is about an hour and a half away by car. The entrance is marked by a quirky hand-painted sign that says Parque Recreativo Los Chorros. From there, we took a steep, winding gravel road down to the parking area. The guard charged us for the entrance and parking, and explained which trail led to the falls and streams.

We changed into clothes we didn’t mind getting wet, hiked down for 10–15 minutes to a picnic and restroom area, and kept walking until the trail ended in a deafening waterfall. A rope was in place to help cross the river safely against the current. After walking about 25 meters upstream, we saw the first big waterfall — at least 50m tall — sending out a thick mist 🌫️💦.

We kept walking a bit further and, on the right side, we saw the famous water streams gushing out from the stone wall. We paused for a bit and continued to the final waterfall, which wasn’t taller but produced a massive spray like a water hurricane. As we started hearing thunder, we decided to head back ⚡️🌧️.

This trip is a hidden gem — easy, beautiful, cheap, and so close to San José. Highly recommended!
