We went to San Carlos to visit a place called Tigra Rainforest Lodge that rests in the jungle and it is also the most epic paradise to see frogs of all kinds.

How to get there? Take Route 1 to Alajuela, Palmares and when you get to San Ramón turn right like heading towards of La Fortuna until you see the sign that says La Tigra Lodge ... there is a street that takes about 5 minutes until getting to the place.

What to bring? Fresh clothes, trail tennis shoes, waterproof jacket, swimsuit, towel, insect repellent, change of clothes and an excellent attitude.

We arrived at La Tigra at night and were greeted with a frog concert that was just a mini-preview of what awaited us the next day. When it dawned, we woke up in a cabin in the middle of the jungle, with a balcony that shows us the awesome forest of the place.

After taking a deep breath of fresh air we got ready to have some energy-boosting breakfast at the restaurant of La Tigra where they served us fruits and a pinto with eggs.

We went back to the room to prepare for the walk through an area of the farm which is being reforested and the coolest thing is that they invited us to plant a tree while they explained their commitment to making this a better place. Before continuing we made a stop in the orchard of the lodge that had all types of vegetables (lettuce, cilantro, cabbage, tiquisque, yucca, chayote, onion, etc). When we finished here we went to the trails, among them is the main one (this is the one we did) that goes around the reserve through an awesome river and natural pools.

When we were walking through the forest it started to pour, but that was no reason to stop enjoying the awesomeness of the place ... we waited patiently under a roof and took the liberty of eating a mango while we were here ... while Glori and I devoured the mangos, Tavo and Karlis went to a pool they say was cold but nice.

Overall we walked about an hour, taking a break at the viewpoint, despite the rain, we could see the whole San Carlos valley, super recommended.

Then we went to the restaurant for lunch, a delicious typical meal that left us stuffed, so we took advantage and had a nap until 4 o'clock in the afternoon when we had the last activity planned.

The alarm rang and we went back to the restaurant to start the frog tour. We didn’t have to walk much to see all kinds of frogs in the artificial lagoons that are next to the trails. We can say with certainty that we had never seen so many frogs all together, it was something that really surprised us and it was worth it for sure.

After the tour, we said goodbye to this place and its people, a place to disconnect from the city, surrounded by peace and nature.
