Our Cerro Pelado Experience 💨

We left San José early and headed north on the Interamerican Highway. Midway, we stopped for breakfast (Gallo pinto and strong coffee, obviously ☕).

Before reaching Cañas, we turned right into Javilla, stocked up at a small grocery store, and started the dirt road — surprisingly well maintained!

After 30 minutes, we reached the wooden sign for “Cerro Pelado” and parked in the shade.

🌳 The Ascent

We walked under trees, passed a wire gate, and after 400 meters in the shade we hit the full sun on a dry, steep slope — tough, but manageable.

🌬️ The Top: Wind, Ridge and Pure Awe

Once you're up there, everything changes. The panoramic views are stunning. Behind you: the wind turbines of Tilarán. Ahead: the 2 km ridge leading to Cerro Pelado’s peak.

The wind is so strong you have to stop every 5 minutes just to admire the landscape. The sun burns, the wind cools — it’s wild and wonderful.

🪨 Final Push

Before the last climb, we stopped to eat and gather strength. The wind was intense, and there's a deep drop-off — not a place to get careless.

But once at the summit, you’ll be speechless. 360° views, powerful wind, and silence all around. One of Costa Rica’s most epic spots.

✨ Final Thoughts

Take your time, soak in the energy, and enjoy the silence. This place hits different. What a spot!
