Last weekend we went to San Antonio de la Amistad of Pérez Zeledón to see some awesome waterfalls stuck in the middle of the mountain with some amazing pools.

How to get there? Go towards San Isidro of Pérez Zeledón, we went through Cerro de la Muerte, after passing through Pérez Zeledon, we continued along the Interamericana for about 20 more minutes until we saw the intersection (there is a gas station) that says Pejibaye, from this point they it’s about 10 more minutes until you see the sign on the right that says ¨catarata¨.

For this trip (3:30 hours of travel) we left Tavo’s house at 6:30 am to Perez Zeledón, the cool thing about this trip was the secret raffle, we went with the winners who did not know what the destination was and neither did we, to be honest. We had breakfast at Chespiritos (obligatory stop) and then we went straight to San Antonio de la Amistad which is Pejibaye de Pérez Zeledón, where the waterfall is located.

When we arrived at the place we ran into the owners who have invested very little in infrastructure to attend to the visitors. There are bathrooms, a tiny restaurant and a fairly large dining room. After getting all ready, we went down to the waterfall nonstop, the path is easy with clear indications so it’s a no brainer...

The trail is mostly under the shade of the trees, so this helps reduce the hotness and it’s also all downhill which means you have to prepare yourselves for the way back. Going down we lasted no more than 25 min and first we went to the waterfall below which is actually quite large, surrounded by giant stones and with a small pool in front surrounded by green forest. The place is a waterfall but distributed into four ways, if you see the photos you’ll see what I mean.

Then we went up to the other one that according to what they told us was THE waterfall! We walked 5 more minutes until we got to the top of the waterfall and boom! Another waterfall even bigger and paradisiac with a tremendous pool in front similar to Llanos de Cortes in Bagaces, Guanacaste and has a bit similar to Nauyaca as well. This is where we sat to enjoy more of the place, we snacked on all our leftovers, dived into the water since the pool is incredible and after a while, it was so much energy that we even had to vegetate to calm down.

After an hour of being here, we went back uphill where they received us with a bowl of delicious rice with chicken that revived us in order to continue our way back to San Jose.
