The Savegre River waterfall is located in the town of San Gerardo de Dota, an area that radiates an incredible peacefulness. It is located at the beginning of Cerro de la Muerte, there are small villages there with amazing landscapes almost magical where only fairies and elves are missing.

How to get there? Waze Vehicle: Every vehicle arrives.

What to bring? Sweater, sunscreen, hat, dri fit clothes, trail tennis, swimwear or trunks and towel, snacks, and a bottle of water.

We left early towards Cerro de la Muerte, we drove nonstop, there were clear skies and the weather forecast quite encouraging. On the way, it is inevitable not to want to stop every 5 minutes because the landscape is really photogenic.

We continued our course and after passing the second Chespiritos, we passed in front of the entrance of Los Quetzales National Park where you have to continue a bit more until we see the entrance on the right that says San Gerardo de Dota. From there it goes down, and down, then it goes down a bit more and you get to the gate where the walk begins.

The road starts off very narrow, only one car can pass by, it passes over a bridge and at 300 m you will reach a trout pond. After this, the road becomes a trail, always next to the Savegre River. After strolling for half an hour you get to the first cool spot, they are giant stones, with mini caves almost inside the waterfall, it is worth taking a while to explore this place.

Then you continue walking down the river until you reach the largest waterfall, it is about 20 meters high and the water is at Heineken commercial-like temperature. It is not advisable to swim in this place since it is said that there are slightly dangerous currents, even so, I recommend you to put your feet in the Savegre water for a minute.

On our way back we went directly to the car to drive to soda Doña Marlen, it’s on the way back taking a left, the car is parked and you go up some steps up between succulent plants that are actually sold at a thousand pesos. We all went nuts here with the local trout, It has an incredible taste in all its presentations and tops it all off, Doña Marlen brought us some rice pudding with honey that left us more than satisfied.
