How to get there?

Take Route 1 to Palmares until you reach San Ramón, here you turn towards Piedades Sur and then grab onto San Antonio de Zapotal for one more hour of driving.

  • If for some reason Waze or especially google maps makes you deviate after Piedades Sur (it is before the bar Jocotes) DO NOT listen and follow the road to San Antonio.

After a little more than 2 hours we arrived at Manuel's house where we were greeted with good vibes and he was eager to show us his farm ... so we prepared our things to start walking.

The road to get to the waterfall is very diverse because you first pass through a cattle pen, then a couple of paddocks overlooking the Gulf of Nicoya and finally with a plantation of sweet cane and coffee.

During the last pasture we passed through some stones with photogenic trees and then reached the waterfall. From up top we managed to see how cool the river looked. So we finished going down and walked about 50 m upriver through some delicious pools until we almost reached the main fal.l

The waterfall is about 40 m high, with a perfect temperature to cool off without freezing to death ... overall it’s perfect to stay for a bit and chill so we took off our backpacks and relaxed by the river, took some pics and had some snacks.

On the way back it was around noon so we started walking uphill until we reached Manuel's house where they had a delicious meal waiting for us.

*** Mega Tip: Manuel sells black and red beans harvested by him and is also starting a plant nursery where he has a great variety of plants. So make sure you have some cash and help out our local market.
