A wild adventure in the heart of the Caribbean rainforest After hiking a narrow path, crossing a river, climbing a rock with a rope ladder, and walking deep into the Caribbean jungle, we discovered one of the most impressive waterfalls we’ve seen — Dos Novillos Waterfall . Wild, hidden, and charged with a special kind of magic. ---
Our hike to Dos Novillos – Limón
The day of the hike arrived, and we were still shaking off last week’s “fail” (ICYMI: we tried to visit a waterfall in a swampy field and got attacked by killer flies… so we did what we do best: enjoy ourselves in the middle of nowhere).
We drove along Route 32 to Limón, reached Pocora, and turned right toward a small town called La Argentina. From there, the pavement ends and a dirt road begins. We parked where Waze told us — on the right-hand side — and got out ready to explore.
We crossed a small pasture, followed a water pipe next to the river, and started hiking through a lush canyon surrounded by jungle. The sound of the river kept us company.
The first surprise
Just when the trail seemed to vanish, we found a little cascade that looked like a weeping wall. That’s where things got fun: we descended around 100 slippery meters to a small hidden waterfall. If you’re brave enough to scramble over the rocks, you’ll get a better view.
The final challenge
To get to the main waterfall, we had to cross the river (careful if it's high) and climb a rock using a rope ladder. Then came a slightly confusing jungle path… until suddenly: boom — Dos Novillos Waterfall!
A 40-meter-high waterfall, wild and powerful, in the heart of the jungle. We closed our eyes, took a deep breath, heard the roar of the water and the rustling leaves… and shouted: This place is unreal!
Dos Novillos – Limón is a hidden paradise for jungle lovers, adventurers and those looking for a real off-the-grid experience. Let’s hope it reopens soon.
