We went to visit Tres Pastorcillos, which are 3 very chilly hills on the surroundings of Cerro de la Muerte, a place over 3,000 meters above sea level with perfect views to enjoy or train for hiking up Chirripó.

How to get there: Take Route 2 Interamericana Sur and after passing the entrance of San Gerardo de Dota there is another entrance on the right that goes up to the antennas. To start the walk you have to reach a booth that is on the repeating antennas in the Cerro de la muerte (Death Hill).

We started the trek in the Antennas of Cerro de la Muerte, cold as hell, it was 7:30 am, from there we started walking down for 25 min until we reached the Tres Pastorcillos lodge in the middle of the mountains.

At the hostel they gave us a cup of coffee, fresh water and delicious homemade bread … in order to gain strength and climb the first hill called Jacinta at 3245 meters above sea level. The climb was about 700 m, super steep but worth every step, because you get to a peak with a 360 lookout where you see absolutely everything.

Then we hiked downhill to continue towards the other hill called Lucia. For this other one we had to climb a lot more, luckily the trees protected us from the sun and the strong wind. We hiked for about 40 minutes until we reached the sign, it had no lookout but there is a small trail that takes you to some rocks with a wicked view.

While here, we had a snack (it was necessary at this point), and after a while we continued to the last hill called Francisco. To get there It was not as much as we expected, we arrived within 30 min. The lookout wasn’t as good as Jacinta and Lucia but the experience was cool.

In the end we finished going back to the Tres Pastorcillos cabin to eat a delicious meal that filled our bodies and souls. We slept for a while in the grass and then we walked back to the car happy from walking in the most beautiful hills of Cerro de la muerte (Hill of Death).
