For this trip, we did not get up early since it was nearby, and we were given some t-shirts that said ‘Always ready’ for this particular day.

To get there we turned right just before heading up Ochomogo, and in a matter of 5 minutes, we were already at the Iztaru gate.

At the entrance there are security officers who jot down your personal data, this is cool since it means they don’t allow just anyone here. The other thing is that once you enter, the paved street goes up to where there is a parking lot. When we arrived at the top we were greeted by a super nice scout, he was nice enough to take us for a walk around the place and explain a bit about the camp.

The first thing we did was walk to the top of a mountain called Copete de Pepe, it is called that because it is a farm of the Figueres family (Pepe Figueres) and that pasture that has a view is accessible through Iztarú. From this point, you can see Cartago, Tres Ríos and in the middle what would be the Irazú.

After descending this mountain we decided to go on another circular path that passes through all the cabins, conference rooms and the end of the camping areas. After the camping area, we took a small path on the left that took us back to the center of the camp. It was then when we realized we were hungry and went to the dining room to have lunch.

Here we met a nice lady cook, who cooks yummy, nutritious and cheap, perfect to recover from the road. After lunch, we decided to have a coffee and then try an obstacle course that is usually used by the youngest who go to camps. For this, we were able to test our teamwork skills, balance, physical skills and bullying that exists between us. The final result was an exhausted team from QueBuenLugar ready to rest the remaining of the day.

Iztarú is not just a hill full of scouts, this is a family recreation space, it’s safe, close and fun for all who visit.
