🏞️ Our Experience at San Fernando Waterfall
We arrived just after 8 a.m. at the entrance to the farm where you leave your car. It's about 10 minutes after the La Paz Waterfall. There's a large parking area with bathrooms and showers. Don Guillermo welcomed us and explained the trail to reach the waterfalls. The trail is well-marked and leads to a total of four waterfalls.
🌿 The First Two Waterfalls
The trail starts in the forest with little streams and shady trees. The first waterfall is small, about 8 meters, with a tiny pool. The second one is Paula Waterfall, very cute and small — perfect for a quick stop.
📸 Epic Viewpoint and Botos Waterfall
From a stunning viewpoint, you can see the third waterfall, Botos Waterfall, in all its glory. After more descending (some technical sections with ropes), we reached Botos, which has a gorgeous pool to swim in. We took our time for photos and flew the drone. 🛸
💦 San Fernando: The Giant
Only 700 meters after Botos, you reach the lowest part of the hike where the San Fernando Waterfall shows up in the distance — and wow, it’s enormous. The mist from the waterfall soaks everything. It doesn't have a pool, but the raw power and height make it one of the tallest waterfalls in Costa Rica.
🥾 The Way Back: Sweaty but Happy
After a break and some snacks, we headed back. The climb was tough, but surprisingly easier than the descent. It still left us sweaty and tired, but thankfully the showers at the parking lot were waiting for us. 💦
