We went to Horquetas de Sarapiquí to a very special place called Hacienda Sueño Azul, where we changed the rhythm of our adrenaline filled hikes for something more relaxed while still enjoying nature.

To get an idea ... the hotel is in a giant property next to 2 rivers, right where they join (for that reason it is called Horquetas). In fact, you have to cross over a bridge to get there, and it is surrounded by humid forest like the one in Braulio Carrillo.

When we arrived it was just lunch time, we could not deny such a feast and we sat down to eat overlooking a small, very cold lagoon. During the day there were lots of people since that day there was a competition of trail running but in the afternoon it was getting empty.

After seeing the facilities and appreciating the jungle surrounding where we would spend the night we went to take a nap. As around 4 pm we were invited to the rodeo to see the best horses of the farm, they made steps to the rhythm of the music while we were explained a bit about the horses.

After the rodeo, we went to dinner ... once again we ate deliciously, and we strongly recommend the ceviche as an appetizer and lemon pie for dessert.

The next day after breakfast we went to the rodeo to horseback ride and then go to the Malatoba Waterfall. The ride was awesome, mostly under the shade of the trees of the forest, after almost an hour of trotting on horseback we reached the waterfall.

The place has bathrooms, dressing rooms, and tables in a giant ranch, located in front of the river. You have to be careful when you walk on the stones because it is quite slippery. The waterfall is about 5 meters wide, and there are several pools to choose from, we got into almost all, it is really cool and super relaxing, we enjoyed them a bunch. You can relax in the pools and have a great time. When we finished enjoying the river we went to discover a natural pool that is around the corner. It’s HUGE and has a waterfall that falls in the middle and on the left side a concrete slide that’s all neat.

Once dry, we went for a walk towards a butterfly garden with thousands of butterflies of all sizes, shapes, and colors. Then we went back to the horses, who went on autopilot blew up to the rodeo ... my lap time was 20 minutes .. just imagine the velocity.

After changing and prepping our stuff we returned to San Jose. ** DATE OF THE WALK - October 2016**
